The design is one idea, executed completely
The Bvlgari Bvlgari began as a 1977 limited run for the house's best clients, based on an ancient Roman coin — the maker's name struck twice around the rim. Everything else about the watch follows from that: the bezel is wide because it has to carry lettering, the case is round because a coin is round, and the dial is plain because the bezel is already doing the talking.
It is one of the few watch designs that is genuinely jewellery-first rather than a tool watch dressed up, which is exactly what you would expect from a jeweller that started making watches rather than the other way round.
Why 26 mm is not small here
26 mm sounds tiny by current standards, but the BB26 has almost no lug overhang and a wide bezel, so the visual mass sits right at the wrist rather than extending past it. On most wrists it reads as a proper watch rather than a token one. It was designed as a women's size and wears exactly as intended; buying it hoping it will wear like a 34 mm is a mistake.
Two-tone: the part that ages
Two-tone construction means gold and steel meeting at the bezel, bracelet links and often the crown. Those junctions are where wear shows first, because the two metals have different hardness and polish differently. Look closely at the edges of the gold sections on the bracelet — thinning or a colour change from yellow toward pale is gold plate wearing through, and it cannot be corrected without replating.
Solid gold sections wear evenly and just get softer in finish. Plated sections wear through. Establish which you are buying.
Check the bezel lettering under angled light
The engraved BVLGARI BVLGARI lettering is the single most important cosmetic feature and the first casualty of a careless polish. Over-polished examples show shallow, rounded letters with soft edges; a correct example has crisp vertical walls to each character. Once the lettering is polished down, the watch is permanently diminished and no service can restore it.
Ask for a photograph of the bezel taken at an angle with a single light source. Any seller who understands the watch will know exactly why you are asking.
What it is worth paying for
Pay for crisp bezel lettering, an unstretched bracelet and a clean dial. Do not pay a premium for box and papers on a piece at this price point — the money is better spent on a better example of the watch itself.
